Military Recognition Events

Clarkdale Elementary School honors our military students and their families through several events during the school year including Veteran’s Day celebrations, Month of the Military Family, field trips, and other events.

Veteran's Day Program
Each November, our 4th graders present a Veteran's Day program. We invite parents and veterans in our community to attend the program. During the program, we recognize each branch of service and ask our veterans to stand.

Month of the Military Family
In the month of April, we recognized the Michael Saylor Family. Commander Saylor is retired from the United States Navy where he served as an F-18 fighter pilot. Commander Saylor served 27 years with multiple deployments. Our adjoining High School Campus even invited Commander Saylor to throw the ceremonial first pitch at one of the high school baseball games.

Military Community Connection
When our grade levels discuss community helpers, we always discuss how our military members are one of the most important community helpers we have. We discuss the very important role they have in keeping our community and country safe and protected. Teachers will invite military parents of current students to come speak to the class about what they do in their military profession.
We also encourage our students to color pictures and write letters to our deployed military men and women, thanking them for their service.
